Cylindrical Roller Bearings- Single Row / Double Row / Four Row

Cylindrical roller bearings are ideal for high radial load and heavy impact. Since rollers and raceways are in linear contact they can bear high loads. Cylindrical bearings have separable inner and outer rings. Cylindrical roller bearings come in different conventional designs N, NU, NN, NNU, NJ, NF, NUP, NH. These bearings are available in Single Row Cylindrical Roller Bearing, Double Row Cylindrical Roller Bearings, and Four Row Cylindrical Roller Bearings.

Types of Cylindrical Roller Bearings

  • Single-row cylindrical roller bearings are rigid and can support large radial loads. They can also be used at high speeds.
  • There are many designs and types of single-row cylindrical roller bearings.
  • N, NJ, NU and NUP are the most popular models. The most important difference is in the arrangement of the ribs.
  • In NU type cylindrical roller bearing, the outer ring consists of two rigid ribs, while the inner ring has no ribs. The NU type cylindrical roller bearings can be used as non-locating bearings. They cannot guide the shaft in any direction.
  • In NUP type cylindrical roller bearing, there are two rigid ribs on either side and one loose rib washer on the inner ring. Bearings of the NUP type cylindrical roll bearing are used to locate the shaft in both directions.

  • Double-row cylindrical roller bearings are ideal for heavy radial loads, due to their high load capacity and rigidity.
  • The interchangeability of double-row cylindrical roller bearings allows for mounting and dismounting as well as maintenance inspections.
  • A double row cylindrical bearing is typically used in rolling mills, gear drives, crop shear and machine tools.

  • Four-row cylindrical roller bearings are suitable for very high radial loads due to a large number of rolling elements.
  • Four-row cylindrical roller bearings are only designed to accommodate radial loads. They can be mounted with either deep groove or angular contact ball bearings or with tapered roller bearings (radial or thrust) that can support axial loads.
  •  The four-row cylindrical roller bearings are primarily used for heavy machinery, such as for supporting rollers in rolling mills, calenders and roller presses.
